He spoke to Wayne Gretsky.

As all my (ice) hockey friends know, the signed stick on the back of the bar is signed by the greatest (ice) hockey player of my era, some say EVER! Wayne Gretsky.

A few nights ago, I’ve introduced me to Harry, who was born in Detroit, MI, and who now lives in Los Angeles.

One of the teams Wayne Gretsky had iced for, during his illustrious career, was the ‘Los Angeles Kings’.

The pleasantries of the introduction completed, I challenged Harry to recognise the signature of the Canadian, known as the ‘Great One’, on our treasured (ice) hockey stick.

Of course Harry recognised it straightaway.

On previous occasions in the public house, after the customers (usually North Americans) have told me their favourite Wayne Gretsky story, and every North American has one, we continue with idle chatter and small talk that makes a British public house what it is.

NOT TONIGHT !!

Harry continues, “I was talking to Wayne a few weeks ago”.

Just like that!

I stood there, Harry continued talking but I heard nothing! What did he say! I waited a few moments then asked Harry, “Did you say you SPOKE to Wayne Gretsky ?”

He confirmed he had.
