The Reverend Willy Pryor RIP

Alexander Pryor called into the R&C to share with us the news that his father, the remarkable Reverend Willy Pryor, had died last Monday, 25th September.
My memories of this amazing, incredibly humorous, kind, thoughtful, smiling, loving, gentleman will happily remain with me throughout my life.
Time spent with ‘Willy’ and his devoted wife, Elizabeth at Summerfields School events, where he schoolmastered for many years, often in the persona of Uncle Bulgaria! And serving their congenial children Alex, Hugh and Victoria at the R&C.
Willy would hear remarks that he found amusing and then note them in his diary, purportedly for the purposes of constructing his sermons, Sometime he would open his diary in the bar and regale us with his notes, to the utter delight and hilarity of all lucky enough to know this special man.
His dedicated ministry to his Summerfields schoolchildren and local community alike.
Our sincere condolences to all his family and his many many friends.

I will post the arrangements here as soon as I’m made aware of them.

Thursday, October 14th.

I have learned that the funeral service of the Revd Pryor took place yesterday at St Michael & All Angels Church at Lonsdale Road, North Oxford, a church he’d have been very familiar with, where, I believe, he had taken many services during the interim before the appointment of the Revd Gavin Knight, the present incumbent.

Further, I’m informed that notices of the funeral were placed in the Times, the Telegraph and the Oxford Mail, which I managed to miss completely.
