What a sad week … that Baz should not be with us in inconceivable. His passing earlier this week was unexpected and sudden. This man was one of the most remarkable people I have ever had the privilege to know. He was that rare combination of warrior and philosopher. RSM of “The Regiment”, he served in most of the “interesting” hotspots but was also one of the most serene and calm of people. Sophie Goldsworthy and I will miss him desperately as will all of his friends from Rose & Crown.

Lola Chapman tells me that ‘Baz’s siblings’ are visiting Oxford (30AUG19) and the R&C.
In written discussion, Lola wrote:
” … exactly how I remember an evening with Baz. Talking about everything and nothing. Deep life truths interspersed with laughter and silliness. What a man.”
We think Baz would have loved to be remebered in this way. Miss you! RIP friend.

This lovely picture of Baz was taken at Victor and Sophies wedding.

Hi All, If you are not already aware an ex 1 Para stalwart Baz Gray has passed away. He was a a very well liked and brilliant soldier known to many who have passed on their condolences.
…
His family have asked if we can provide a guard of honour for this sad occasion and I am sure that will be met. In addition a bugler will be required to sound Last Post and Reveillie.

In conversation with one of the soldiers from the Aldershot mortar ‘detail’ referred to his sergeant-major, Baz, as a “modern day Jesus”. Spot on.

Another soldier told me that Baz had “power without aggression”. Spot on.
