– the central area of the avenue is gated and closed to fill it with tables and chairs.

If you need ACCESS eg for a senior citizen, drive down North Parade from the Banbury Road end
(fastidiously moving and replacing the cones and signboard), as far as the gate.

The last 10 – 15yards will be negotiated on foot or by chair.

Then move the car to one of the many public parking bays in the surrounding streets. (2hr and 1hr bays)

The closure of BOTLEY ROAD at the station bridge began in 2023
for a railway bridge replacement project and is now expected to reopen in August 2026.
(The original completion date was October 2024.) 

N.B.   Café society

… was the description of the “Beautiful People” and “Bright Young Things” who gathered in fashionable cafés and restaurants in New York, Paris and London beginning in the late 19th century, coining the phrase “café society” in 1915. Members attended each other’s private dinners and balls, and took holidays in exotic locations or at elegant resorts. In the United States, café society came to the fore with the end of Prohibition in December 1933, and the rise of photojournalism to describe the set of people who tended to do their entertaining semi-publicly—in restaurants and nightclubs—and who would include among them, movie stars and sports celebrities.
